a man in a white button-down with blue and red plaid climbs onto the subway. another man, right next to him, wearing the SAME EXACT white button down with blue and red plaid, looks up from his book. the two make eye-contact. the man looks back down at his book. both pretend that there’s nothing at all worth discussing here.
Scene Title: afternoon greyhound
an enormous wet white greyhound, tied to a bicycle rack, whimpers as the warm afternoon rain picks up. he stands up and sits down and stands up again. he forgot his umbrella this morning too.

overheard in starbucks:
“chicago is like great but unnecessary when new york exists, you know?”
Scene Title: morning greyhound
9am. against the stirring morning sea of yellow taxi cabs, an asian doctor in powder blue scrubs scurries across the street just as the traffic light changes. he’s flanked by his enormous white greyhound, who glides ghostlike across the street in a few long graceful strides, unhurried, actually, like nothing else in the city.
Character Title: just laughin
i walk into my neighborhood coffee shop and approach the counter while maybe taking out my wallet.
the girl at the counter, a black 20-something with tight braids, an apron and a hat starts laughing.
confused, i smile, and ask her what’s so funny.
“just laughing,” she says and takes my order.
